Back in the spring of 1999 we visited S&M’s headquarters where we were treated to a tour by owner and founder Chris Moeller. After the checking out the offices, warehouse, manufacturing, shipping, packaging, warranties, and graphic design departments of the operation, Nate Hanson, Brian Castillo, Mike Escamillia, and others ride the indoor miniramp/spine setup.
Filmed by Ohio’s Afro Pat in the fall of 2000, we took a look at the scene in and around Detroit, Michigan in Issue 35. We asked Albe’s Mailorder co-owner, TM, and long-time Michigan rider/scenester Mark Filipowicz to take us back.
Joe Rich, Luc-e, Taj Mihelich, Butcher, Magilla, Chris Stauffer, Nate Wessel, Pat Juliff, Jay Lonergan, and other Bethlehem locals hit up the infamous POSH trails and street in this scene report filmed in the summer of 1997 – not too long before some of these guys made the move to Austin, TX. This was pulled off a S-VHS master so it may look a little fuzzy.
Before it closed down in late 2009, Chad DeGroot’s Mesh Skatepark in Longwood, FL was host to a wild scene of riders & underage girls, where fire and pet goats were a common sight. Mark Mulville, Trey Jones, Ryan Flesch, Tom Haugen, Joel Pierazek, Mike Cottle, Corey Mclaughlin, Ricky Bates, Dave Rytell, Colt Fake, and others hit up the park in this spot check from Props Issue 73.
Follow a shaggy-headed Mat Hoffman as he arrives at HB HQ to find Drill Sergeant Swoope whipping the staff into shape. Then Mat gives a tour of the facility while oppressor Swoope keeps tabs on employees, busting Chuck D and others wasting time in their offices. An indoor park session transpires with riding from DMC, Rooftop, K-Rob, Psycho, Butcher, Chad Kagy, and Mat hitting the vert ramp. Classic HB humor from the Spring of 1999.
Props produced volume 6 of Woodward Camp’s Colony of Summer video, and Issue 42 we had a section previewing some of the footage. Check out Kevin Porter, Alistair Whitton, Ron Kimler, Bruce Crisman, Nate Wessel, Brian Kachinsky, Aaron Bostrom, Ruben Alcantara, Axel Jurgens, and others shredding Woodward Camp, PA during the summer of 2001.
Mat Hoffman’s Bicycle Stunt contest series held a comp at Woodward Camp in the summer of 1998.
Team Shralp’s Pink Motel Pool Party, hosted by Jimmy Levan. Modern riders shred a pool with old school legends like Ron Wilkerson, Brian Blyther, and Mike Dominguez. From Props Issue 76.
